Dear EMEUNET friends,
It’s that time of year when you should consider applying to become an EMEUNET sub-committee member! The application period will open sometime in February, and EMEUNET members will be notified by email. The call will also be advertised on our social media. You can read more about the process and selection criteria here.
While the selection is highly competitive, every submission is valued. Some current EMEUNET sub-committee members had to apply more than once before being successful. To help you submit the strongest possible application, we have compiled some brief guidance based on common pitfalls in unsuccessful applications.
- You will be scored against the selection criteria. Please read them carefully and, if you meet them, ensure your answers clearly address each criterion.
- Consider asking a colleague to review your application. They can provide feedback on your answers and structure. A second pair of eyes always helps!
- Take your time to complete your application. It is not typically a 15-minute task. Write a draft first, then revisit it after a few days to review your answers with fresh eyes.
- Be specific and provide examples. For instance, one of the scoring criteria is previous experience in committees, congresses, or chairing. If you have been involved in committees, include specific examples—mention the committees, your role, and your contributions.
- If you were not successful before, don’t be discouraged—apply again! As mentioned, the selection process is highly competitive, and factors, such as country representation are considered. An unsuccessful application does not necessarily mean you didn’t score highly. However, please do not simply resubmit the same application without improvements.
We look forward to receiving your applications and, hopefully, welcoming you as new sub-committee members at the EMEUNET Assembly Meeting in Barcelona! If you are a current sub-committee member, we encourage you to share your own advice at emeunet@eular.ch, and we will include it in the next iteration.
