Title: Urate Lowering Therapy to Acute Treatment Ratio (ULTrA) Index – a Novel Quality Indicator Associated with Reduced Hospital Admissions for Gout

This retrospective study analyzed electronic health records of gout patients in Singapore from 2022-2023. It introduced the ULT to Acute Treatment ratio (ULTrA) as a quality index. Among 12,314 patients in 2022, only 46.1% received urate-lowering therapy, and 11.4% were hospitalized. The ULTrA index was inversely associated with hospitalization risk, suggesting its potential as a quality indicator for gout management and its ability to reduce hospital admissions.

Title: Impact of SGLT2i Initiation on the Need for Urate-Lowering Therapy and Colchicine Among Gout Patients with Type 2 Diabetes:Propensity-Score Matched, Active Comparator, New User Design Study

This study found that SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) significantly reduced the need for urate-lowering therapy, colchicine prescriptions, and gout-related medical visits in type 2 diabetes patients compared to GLP1 receptor agonists. The results support SGLT2i use in gout patients with multiple comorbidities.

Title: Prospective Evaluation of Carotid Atherosclerosis, Urate Deposits and Inflammation After One Year of Treatment in Newly Diagnosed Gout

This 12-month study of 103 gout patients receiving urate-lowering therapy demonstrates that improvements in carotid atheroma plaques were significantly more prevalent in those with absent Power Doppler signals. These findings provide additional evidence supporting the link between crystal-induced inflammation and atherosclerosis in gout patients.

Title: Gout Flares Following Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors Treatment

This study investigated the impact of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) on gout flares among Veterans. Of 308 patients examined, 35 (11.3%) had pre-existing gout, with 17 (48.5%) experiencing flares within six months of initiating ICI treatment. Elevated serum urate levels and atezolizumab use emerged as potential risk factors.

Title: Efficacy and Safety of Tocilizumab in the Treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Forms of CPPD: Retrospective Study of 55 Cases

This study evaluated tocilizumab (TCZ) for chronic inflammatory calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) in 55 patients. Over six months, pain scores significantly decreased from 60.8 to 37.4. Despite 40% discontinuing treatment due to inefficacy or intolerance, TCZ improved CPPD control in more than two-thirds of patients.
